Kenya ~ Lake Turkana National Parks - UNESCO ~

... Lake Turkana National Parks is a group of three national parks located along the shores of Lake Turkana... the most saline of Africa's large lakes... they all serve as a stopover for migrant waterfowl and are major breeding grounds for the Nile crocodile, hippopotamus and a variety of venomous snakes... also a place of  international significance of archaeological and paleoanthropological discoveries... Lake Turkana National Parks, the fourth largest lake by volume in Africa is located on the Kenya’s north bordering with Ethiopia and South Sudan. 

Lake Turkana National Parks constitute of Sibiloi National Park, the South Island and the Central Island National Parks, covering a total area of 161,485 hectares located within the Lake Turkana basin whose total surface area is 7 million ha.

It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 and expanded in 2001. Lake Turkana is also on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage in Danger due to human activity.
