GERMANY ~ Old Town Square - Brunswick ~

... Nice view of  the Old Town Square, with Henry the Lion Burgplatz statue... a landmark and true symbol of the city... cast in bronze by an unknown artist in the Romanesque style in the 11thC... this replica has been here since 1989, while the original is in Burg Dankwarderode to protect it from the elements.... and the historic Huneborstel House in half-timbered style... the half-timbered facade of the Huneborstel house, which today is also known as Gildehaus, dates back to 1525... with as always a lovely special matching postmark👍... Thanks a lot Dustin for another beautiful view of your hometown!【ツ】

In Lower Saxony, Braunschweig (also known as Brunswick) is the largest city between Berlin and Hanover. The city was founded by the Duke of Saxony, Henry the Lion, a member of the Welf Dynasty that would be present in Braunschweig right up to 1918. In the Middle Ages the city was a major trading hub and was one of the last nine remaining members of the Hanseatic League.
