Freiburg is located in Baden-Württemberg at the foot of the Black Forest near the border triangle of Switzerland, France and Germany in the heart of the major Baden wine-growing region.
The city was founded by Konrad and Duke Berthold III of Zähringen as a ‘Fortified Town of Free Citizens’ (hence its name) in the year 1120.
