... Great museum located in one of Hamburg's major historic buildings... it brings the city's fascinating 1,200-year history to life through events and exhibits... the museum houses models of old Hamburg and interesting reconstructions, including a vast section devoted to the port and shipping (more than 100 boat models)... it is also home to a scale model of the town's rail network, as well as historical fashion accessories, clothes and furniture several centuries old... with cute "Sesame Street" special postmark nr 2😍... Thanks a lot Dustin! (✿◠‿◠)

The museum was established at its current location in 1922, although its parent organization was started in 1839.
The museum was built on the site of the former Bastion Henricus, a part of the baroque fortification which was erected between 1616 and 1625 by the Dutchman Jan van Valckenborgh in order to make the town impregnable.
The main building at Holstenwall was designed by Fritz Schumacher and constructed between 1914 and 1922.
