Kotor is a coastal town situated in a secluded part of the Gulf of Kotor in the northern part of the Montenegro coast on the Adriatic Sea. Montenegro is a country in Southeastern Europe and is officially the smallest Slavic state and one of the smaller states in Europe.
The Old Town of Kotor was built between the 12th and 14th centuries. The town is of rich cultural tradition, and one of the best preserved medieval urban areas of this part of the Mediterranean.
Kotor is part of the UNESCO WHS as the Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor since 1979. It was also included in UNESCO's WHS list as part of Venetian Works of Defence between 16th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra – western Stato da Mar in 2017.
