Constantine is the third largest and capital of Constantine Province in north-eastern Algerian on the banks of the Rhumel River, it owes its ts name to the Roman Emperor Constantine. When it was founded 2,000 years ago on  a plateau surrounded by deep ravines it  was a great place to build, because the city could be easily defended. Since then, Constantine has outgrown the plateau and spilled over into the adjoining areas.

Of the many high bridges that cross the Rhumel River gorge, the highest and most spectacular of all is the Sidi M’Cid suspension bridge. Opened in 1912 and designed by French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin, this  bridge was the highest bridge in the world for 17 years before Colorado’s Royal Gorge bridge opened in 1929. In 2000 the Sidi M’Cid bridge was given a major renovation.

The ‘Nine Arch Bridge’ between Ella and Demodara railway stations on the Badulla line is an outstanding civil engineering marvel of the British colonial era.

Gotuwala Viaduct  was built in 1921 and is located almost 3,100 feet above sea level, the largest viaduct in the country is 99.6ft high and has been built entirely of solid rocks, bricks and cement without using a single piece of steel.

People call it the ‘Ahasnamayepalama’ (Bridge of Nine Skies) in Sinhala because of the view from below. When one stands underneath it and looks up it is a beautiful sight of ‘nine skies’ through the nine arches, hence the Sinhala name. One end of this curved nine-arch bridge is a tunnel.

UKRAINE ~Pedestrian Park Bridge~

Got a wonderful bridge view from Alex! Reading about Trukhanov Island I think it must be a great place to visit, a litle "heaven" in the big city of Kiev... I was wondering... have you ever been there?:D Thanks a lot Alex!!

With nice Ukraine stamp of Yuri Gagarin issued for the 50th anniversary of Human Spaceflight! The stamp also has the famous autograph of the astronaut.

Park Pedestrian Bridge is a light construction 400 metres in length that connects Kiev to the Trukhanov Island. Opened in 1957, this is the only bridge constructed specifically for the pedestrian traffic over the Dnipro river.
Trukhanov Island is a beautiful green space in the heart of Kiev, and is a favorite destination for both locals and visitors. Island visitors can enjoy wonderful beaches, cafes, bars, restaurants, a number of sport activities such as beach football (soccer), swimming, tennis, biking and during the winter months snow skiing. Fishermen believe that this oasis is a lucky place.

TAIWAN ~Dajhih Bridge~

The Dajhih Bridge, Taipei is one of Taipei city’s new landmarks. It is the first cable-stayed bridge with a single pylon in the shape of a fishing rod in the city. It was partially opened to traffic in June 2002. In January 2003, the main span was opened
to traffic. The bridge has a total length of 820 meters and eight-lanes, with two-way traffic. It is an important bridge connecting the Dajhih district to other parts of Taipei. At night, when its red cables and pylon are illuminated, it resembles a dazzling work of large outdoor art that sets off the beautiful scenery of neighboring Keelung River Park.
