LITHUANIA ~ Samogitian National Park ~

... Great nature view of lake Plateliai... almost the entire life in the Samogitia National Park is centered around the Plateliai Lake... it is the deepest, largest and probably the most beautiful lake in Samogitia with islands, peninsulas, bays, surrounded by hillsides and forests... covering about 12 km² and reaches up to 49 m in depth... the park offers activities like boating, sailing, hiking, and cycling... alongside historical sites such as hillforts, churches, and a former Soviet missile base turned museum... Thanks Lina Li!ヽ(•‿•)ノ

Samogitian National Park, also known as Žemaitija National Park, is a national park situated on the Samogitian Highlands close to the Baltic Sea and was established in 1991. The national park is rich with dense, shady spruce forests, natural old conifer and mixed tree forests also called the Western Taiga with 26 lakes in the territory of the park. There are nesting places for protected rare bird species in Europe and also relict plant species from the glacial period.

LITHUANIA ~ Vilnius - UNESCO ~

... Lovely views of the capital Vilnius...an exceptional illustration of a medieval Central European town which evolved over a period of five centuries... it has a well-preserved old town with a large number of historic buildings... it features incredible examples of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture... the Vilnius Old Town is one of the few European cities that have maintained the radial street pattern that was typical of the Middle Ages... situated right on the boundary between Catholicism and Russian Orthodoxy... Thanks a lot Kristina!❁◕ ‿ ◕❁

Lithuania  is a country in the Baltic region of Europe and lies on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea. Lithuania shares land borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia. It has a maritime border with Sweden on the Baltic Sea. Lithuania is one of the countries that make up the "Baltic States." However, contrary to what the name suggests, the states have no political unity.

Vilnius is the largest city in that country and was built at the confluence of the Vilnia and Neris rivers surrounded by forests. Vilnius is the major economic centre of Lithuania and one of the largest financial centres of the Baltic states.

Its Old Town was inscribed onto the World Heritage List in 1994.

LITHUANIA ~ Nida Sundial - Neringa - Curonian Spit National Park - UNESCO ~

... Great view of a granite sundial located on top of the 53 meter high Parnidis Dune... the second-highest sand dune in Europe... this is an ideal place for this kind of sundial as the horizon opens up from the Dune... it is possible to observe the Sun rising from the Curonian Lagoon and setting into the Baltic sea... the obelisk in the centre of the square contains a lot of Lithuanian folklore and symbols... the obelisk, the height of which was reaching 12m, was broken down by a hurricane in 1999, but rebuilt in 2011... an amazing piece of sculpture and monument... Thanks a lot Jolante! (✿◠‿◠)
Nida is a resort town in the Neringa municipality and is the westernmost point of Lithuania and the Baltic states, close to the border with the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast exclave.

The Sundial was designed by architect Ričardas Krištapavičius, sculptor Klaudijus Pudimas and Professor Dr Libertas Klimka.

The Curonian Spit National Park is a 98km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast. After World War I, these areas became divided between Russia and Lithuania. The landscape of the Curonian Spit is formed by the harmonious interaction of man and nature.

The Curonian Spit was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 2000. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by Lithuania and Russia.

The painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy of Aušros Vartai (the Gate of Dawn) is the only one in Lithuania so widely known for miraculous recoveries and other graces and visited by pilgrims from many surrounding countries. The Blessed Virgin Mary of Aušros Vartai is considered a guardian of Lithuania as well as the symbol of concord. Four peoples and two religious confessions come together to worship her: Lithuanians, Poles, Byelorussians and Russians, Catholics and Orthodox.

LITHUANIA ~Klaipeda-sail boat Meridianas~

I JUST LOVE this amazing view... It has something mystic about it!
As being a huge fan of tall sailing ships for years, I'm so happy with this card... It is one of my dreams to sailing on one only powered by wind...(But maybe I will be seasick the whole time...:D)
...Bit sad that it is now a restaurant and don't sail anymore... Thanks a lot!!

Nice stamp too!!Depicted on this stamp from 2009 is Mecislovas Reinys,a Roman Catholic bishop.
Some interesting point: He successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (BELGIUM)!!! in 1912. With his fellow students he worked at organizing a Lithuanian students' league.

The threemasted sail boat Meridianas is one of the most beautiful symbols of the city Klaipeda. The boat was~built in 1948 in Finland.Today it houses a restaurant in which one can try "Rainekes" beer brewed in accordance with the old traditions.A view of the Meridianas, moored in Klaipėda, Lithuania. She was constructed in 1948 and was used to train sailors. Today, she is primarily a tourist attraction and restaurant.
