Shaki is a city in northwestern Azerbaijan, surrounded by the district of the same name. It is located on the southern part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range.
There are ancient settlements in Sheki, which are considered to be more than 2,700 years old. It's presumed that the name of Sheki comes from Saks, who lived in Azerbaijan in the 7th century BC. The Upper Caravanserai dates back from the 17th and 18th centuries.
In 2019, “The historic center of Sheki together with the Khan’s Palace” was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
