St. KITTS and NEVIS ~ Anglican Church - Basseterre ~

... Great postcard nr 2 from this two-island nation in the Caribbean💙... this beautiful St George Anglican church is located in the center of Basseterre with rich and dramatic history... it was built in the late 1600s by the French but burned and rebuilt by the English in the early 1700s... this church suffered, over the years, many damage, such as wars, hurricanes and earthquakes and nothing succeeded in causing them to give up rebuilding it stone by stone... the tower is the tallest structure in town and the top can be reached by five flights of very, very steep stairs, almost ladders... the views of Basseterre are wonderful including Nevis in the distance and mountains behind... today St. George’s continues to stand proudly at the head of Church Street and is home to the many Anglican worshipers who live in that parish... Thanks a lot Diego! (✿ ♥‿♥)

Saint Kitts and Nevis is located in the Leeward Islands chain of the Lesser Antilles in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. It is the smallest sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere, in both area and population, as well as the world's smallest sovereign federation. The country is a Commonwealth realm, with Charles III as king and head of state.

Both islands were formed by volcanic activity and are mountainous. St Kitts is a fertile island with mainly black sandy beaches. Nevis is surrounded by coral reefs and has silver beaches.

St. KITTS and NEVIS ~ Jessup Bay - Nevis ~

... Another fantastic Caribbean beauty♥ and my first from Nevis... so, yippee😎 one more new place to add to my collection... fishing boats at Pinney's Beach... Nevis's beaches are its crowning glory... known for its soft, saffron-colored sand, miles of clear waters, ideal for swimming and sunbathing, snorkeling and scuba diving... the lush, verdant foliage that lines the beach adds to the sense of tropical paradise... towering palm trees sway gracefully in the warm Caribbean breeze... this hidden gem, nestled in the heart of the Caribbean, is a true oasis of peace and natural wonder... Big Thanks Diego! (✿◠‿◠)

Nevis is the smaller of the two islands that make up the Caribbean island nation, Saint Kitts and Nevis. A former British colony, these islands became independent from Britain in 1983. There are no cities in Nevis, the settlements are mostly villages only the capital Charlestown counts as a town.

St. Kitts and Nevis are separated by a 2-mile wide channel known as "The Narrows". Several ferries run every day between Charlestown, the capital of Nevis, and Basseterre, which is the capital of St. Kitts.

Saint Kitts ~ Sugar Mas - Basseterre ~

... Last Friday arrived one more fantastic postcard from Glenn's Caribbean cruise🌞... thought I had already received them all😊... a great view of the islands traditional folklore... carnival in Saint Kitts, known as Sugar Mas, (Sugar because of the importance of sugar cane as a resource, and Mas, which is short for masquerade) is a spectacular event blending vibrant Caribbean culture with festive holiday spirit.... it is the only Caribbean carnival that incorporates the spirit of Christmas into the celebrations, taking place yearly between mid December to early January... paraders wear tall peacock-feathered headdresses, masks and the entire costume is decorated with bangles, mirrors and fringed aprons... a time for locals and visitors to come together in a spirit of fun and camaraderie... Thanks a lot dear Glenn! (✿◠‿◠)

Saint Kitts, officially Saint Christopher, is an island in the West Indies and one of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. It borders the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Saint Kitts and the neighbouring island of Nevis constitute one country: the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Saint Kitts and Nevis are separated by a shallow 3km channel known as "The Narrows".

Basseterre is the capital and largest city of Saint Kitts and Nevis and one of the oldest towns in the Eastern Caribbean.

St. KITTS and NEVIS ~ Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park - UNESCO ~

... Caribbean beauty nr2 💛... impressing view of an architectural and engineering monument... situated almost 800 feet above sea level, this remarkable fortress is one of the most dramatic spots in the entire Caribbean... a site of historical and cultural significance... one of the most extensive and earliest surviving well-preserved example of a British polygonal style fortification in the Western Hemisphere... visitors can walk to the top and wander through the courtyard and tour the old officer quarters and see the huge cannons facing out to sea... from its high vantage point you can see spectacular vistas of the Caribbean Sea and five neighboring Caribbean islands... the top tourist attraction on St Kitts... strangely enough the postcard has a postmark from St Kitts but was sent without stamp?? (it looks so🤔) or someone along the way liked the stamp too and pulled it off😁... Big Thanks once again dear Andrene, hope you enjoyed your cruise! 乂❤‿❤乂
The beautiful island of St Kitts has the distinction of being the first Caribbean island to be colonized by the British in 1623 and as such is known as the “mother colony of the West Indies.”

Brimstone Hill Fortress was built over the course of 100 years by African slaves mostly under British command and was built largely from quarried blackened basalt rock. This started circa 1690 when the first cannon was mounted on Brimstone Hill to recapture Fort Charles from French occupation. British troops continue to be stationed at the Brimstone Hill Fortress until it was abandoned circa 1852.

In 1985, Brimstone Hill became a national park.

The Brimstone Hill Fortress is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean and on the list since 1999.

Saint Kitts and Nevis - Berkely Memorial Clock at the Circus - Basseterre ~

... Another fantastic Caribbean beauty♥ and one more of my missing list... the smallest two island country in the Caribbean... this interesting and a bit "kitsch" looking Victorian Memorial is a typical icon for the capital... surrounded by some wonderful old Caribbean architecture... Big Thanks once more dear Glenn for two wonderful surprises... its always so nice when people think of you during traveling!!乂❤‿❤乂➙  http://gemsworldpostcards.blogspot.be/

St Kitts and Nevis is a two island country in the Caribbean Sea and part of the Leeward Islands. They are separated by a shallow channel known as "The Narrows".

The newest nations in the Western Hemisphere shares maritime borders with Antigua and Barbuda, Netherlands (Sint Maarten), Venezuela, Montserrat (United Kingdom), and Saint Barthélemy (France).

The capital city is Basseterre on the larger island of Saint Kitts.

The Berkeley Memorial stands in the centre of the Circus in the capital. The memorial features a drinking fountain as well as a clock. There are four clock faces, each one facing one of the four streets leading to the Circus. It was built in honour of Thomas B.H. Berkeley, a former president of the General Legislative Council in the 1880s.
