MALAYSIA ~ Kuala Lumpur ~

... Great aerial view of Kuala Lumpur city skyline... a mixture of old and new... the capital of Malaysia has grown from a tin-mining settlement to the present cosmopolitan and modern city of impressive and inspiring high-rise buildings and towers... with the national icon and most famous landmark the Petronas Towers twin buildings... the financial centre of the country... the top attractions of the city includes historic monuments and buildings, futuristic and modern skyscrapers... colorful mosques... shrines and temples, green and lush parks and jungle areas... huge shopping malls, bustling street markets  and a lively nightlife of cool pubs and bars... Thanks Sam!【ツ】

Kuala Lumpur located in the Klang valley was founded in 1857 by a group of Chinese tin miners at the swampy confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers. In Malay, the name literally means "muddy confluence" or "muddy estuary," reflecting the difficult, jungle-heavy terrain the prospectors first settled in. In 1880 Kuala Lumpur superseded Klang (now Kelang) as the state capital; it went on to become the capital of the independent Federation of Malaya in 1957 and of Malaysia in 1963.

Thanks a lot Wen Yi!【ツ】

MALAYSIA ~ Local Market ~

... Nice view of a local market vendor... steamed or roasted groundnuts are a popular street food in Malaysia... the vendors are loved for their tasty snacks and colorful character... we call them🥜"pindanoten"🥜...  Thanks Ravindra!【ツ】

Peanut and groundnut refer to the same plant and its edible seeds. They are just different names used in different regions and contexts: Peanut is the more common term used in North America, while groundnut is the term more commonly used in other parts of the world, especially in Africa and Asia.

It is a legume that produces its fruit underground, which is why it is also called a groundnut. The seeds/nuts are nutritionally similar, being high in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. They can be used interchangeably in cooking, baking, and other food applications.

MALAYSIA ~ Kuala Lumpur ~

... Probably the largest card ever received (and with nice big stamp too)😲... fitted only just on my scanner... panoramic aerial view of Kuala Lumpur city skyline... a mixture of old and new... with the national icon and most famous landmark the Petronas Twin Towers... with imposing 73,5m tall pinnacles visible from almost all parts of the city... at the left is the KL Tower... this 421m tower has a restaurant, an observation deck, pedestrian mall and an amphitheatre... there are also world-class hotels and shopping malls in the area... Thanks Jobbo!!ヽ(ヅ)ノ
Kuala Lumpur commonly known as KL, is the national capital and largest city in Malaysia located in west-central Peninsular (West) Malaysia.

The origin of Kuala Lumpur dates to 1857, when a group of 87 Chinese tin miners founded a settlement. Strategically commanding both river valleys, the community flourished as a tin-collecting centre. In 1880 Kuala Lumpur superseded Klang (now Kelang) as the state capital; it went on to become the capital of the independent Federation of Malaya in 1957 and of Malaysia in 1963.

Kuala Lumpur's name in Malay means "muddy estuary"; the city lies in hilly country astride the confluence of the Kelang and Gomback rivers.

MALAYSIA ~ Moon Kite - Kelatan ~

... Beautiful view of an expert kite-maker designing a traditional moon kite or Wau Bulan... Wau Bulan is the name given to Malaysian Moon Kite (the word "bulan" meaning moon in Malay)... given the right colour, wau bulan apparently resembles a rising crescent moon when flown and is unique to the state of Kelantan... an iconic symbol of the Malaysia's culture and traditions... larger than other traditional kites, the wau bulan is richly decorated with floral motifs, bold colors, difficult to build, not easily transported and require tender loving care.... they even have a kites Museum in Malacca that includes exhibits and informations about the kites from all over the world... the different materials they are made with, and the role kites play in the cultural life of the people of those countries... this brings back lovely memories of holidays when I was a kid and flying kites with *homemade*😉 ones on our Belgian coast😍...Thank you Jobbo!【ツ】Hope your pen works again... or maybe you had to buy a new one?
Interested in making one for yourself:

Traditional construction materials are bamboo, rattan and paper. The best wau are made from bamboo that has been cured in the sun for at least 2 weeks.

The perimeter frame is made from sun-dried bamboo. The paper sails are further reinforced by a webbing of strings. Wau bulan are not flat kites. A skilled kite maker will ensure that the wings have a dihedral built in. The dihedral is induced by carefully cutting and gluing the paper sails on to the frame.

It uses a 3-legged bridle with 2 lines going to the top of the kite. Furthermore, the lower crescent sail is also slightly angled relative to the upper sail. All this results in a light, sturdy and strong kite that rises easily, even in light winds. The goal is to make a bow which produces a melodious tone.

MALAYSIA~ Turtle Island National Park - Borneo ~

... Beautiful view of one of the most fascinating sea creatures... sea turtles have been around for about 100 million years and even witnessed the fall of the dinosaurs.... must be amazing to see them in the ocean and watch them legging their eggs ... or experience the hatchlings being send to the sea on their first journey ever... but sadly due to the careless of people they are threatened with extinction ( ⌣́,⌣̀)...  hopefully sea turtle sanctuaries like this can save them... Thank you very much Alan Tan!!【ツ】
Photo: Ⓒ Susan K. Jacobson

From backside postcard:
A green turtle laboriously "paddles" its way ashore, amidst frequent loud puffs of breath, in search of a suitable site at which to perform that one activity that secures further chances for the species's survival-to lay it eggs.

Turtle Islands Park is located within the Turtle Islands, which lie in the Sulu Sea north of Sandakan in Sabah. It consists of 3 islands Selingan, Bakungan Kecil and Gulisan islands. (actually 10 in total, where 3 belong to Malaysia and the other 7 to the Philippines). It covers an area of 17.4 km² which includes the surrounding reefs and seas.

The park is a safe haven for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles and gives you the rare opportunity to watch turtle landings. Selingan, the largest of the islands, houses the park's headquarters, a turtle hatchery, tourist accommodation and basic facilities. The other two islands are more for conservation activities.

The Green turtle is the second largest of the seven species of sea turtle. Like most of them, the green turtle has been hunted by human for flesh, eggs and shell. The green turtle spends most of its live in the sea. The females come a shore to lay their eggs for only a very short time. From 1000 eggs, just one or two survive their first year. There are either eaten by fish, birds or other sea creatures.

"Cave Explorers progresses downstream in Clearwater River Cave, – the eighth longest cave in the world, Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak, Borneo."

Deer Cave was surveyed in 1961 by G. E. Wilford of the Malaysian Geological Survey, who predicted that Mulu would yield many more caves in the future. The cave, which is also known as Gua Payau or Gua Rusa by the local Penan and Berawan people, is said to have received its name because of the deer that go there to lick salt-bearing rocks and shelter themselves.

The Gunung Mulu National Park is Sarawak's largest National Park that encompasses caves and karst formations in a mountainous equatorial rainforest setting. This National Park is famous for its limestone karst formations. Features include enormous caves, vast cave networks, rock pinnacles, cliffs and gorges.

The national park is named after Mount Mulu,  a sandstone mountain rising to 2,376 m. and the second highest mountain in Sarawak.
