Fort Gratiot is located in Port Huron, by the Blue Water Bridge that goes into Canada. It was built in 1814 along the St. Clair River to defend the region during the War of 1812. New lighthouse was built in 1829 north of the military fort in a better sighted location at the head of the St. Clair River.
This site is dedicated to my hobby: collecting written and stamped (from country of origin) postcards! Postcard collecting is a very addictive hobby, but its a lot of fun, and you get in touch with lots of nice people worldwide...

USA ~ Fort Gratiot Light Station - Port Huron - Michigan ~
... Lovely view of the Fort Gratiot Light Station... located next to the new Coast Guard Station and includes the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse... a significant landmark on the west bank of Lake Huron... it is the oldest standing lighthouse in Michigan and still active... the Coast Guard station and lighthouse watch over one of the busiest waterways in the world....the property also features a public beach and a park... weather permitting, the Fort Gratiot Light Station is one of the few operating lighthouses that allow visitors to climb to the tower and step out onto the catwalk for a breathtaking view... a unique vantage point of the U.S. and Canadian waters... Thanks a lot dear Andrene! (✿◠‿◠) Photo: John Penrod

USA ~ Isle Royale National Park - Michigan - UNESCO ~
... Lovely vintage poster postcard of a new National Park... although Isle Royale NP is the least visited national park and only one in Michigan, it gets the highest number of repeat visitors... there are more than 165 miles of trails for hikers to explore and no roadways for cars... also the only NP in the country to close down completely in the winter... due to extreme winter weather conditions... the two largest animals on the island are moose and wolves... moose probably by swimming to it in the early 1900s... wolves likely by walking across the frozen lake between 1945 and 1950... Thanks a lot Andrene!! ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)

USA ~ Greetings from Hell - Michigan ~
...Fantastic card sent, postmarked and even with a burned edge from...yes, "Hell"...isn't that pretty special ツ saying "Have a Hell of a good day"...the town has become a hot spot for travelers who want to be able to say to their friends that they have visited hell... Thanks a lot O'Neil... not many people can say
"I've been to Hell and back"(◕‿-)!!
Hell is a small unincorporated community in Livingston County, in Southeast Michigan.
Theories for the origin of Hell's name. The first is that a pair of German travelers stepped out of a stagecoach one sunny afternoon in the 1830s, and one said to the other, "So schön hell!" (translated as, "So beautifully bright!") Their comments were overheard by some locals and the name stuck.
Soon after Michigan gained statehood, George Reeves was asked what he thought the town he helped settle should be called and replied, "I don't care, you can name it Hell for all I care." The town has officially known as "Hell" since 1841.
It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names.

Built in 1876, Fort Jefferson Lighthouse (also known as Garden Key Ligjt) helped warn sea traffic away from the dangerous shoals and reefs that surrounded the Florida Keys until it was deactivated in 1912 but currently acts as a harbor light, guiding vessels safely into the anchorage outside Fort Jefferson. Today the hexagonal lighthouse is part of Dry Tortygas National Park.

USA ~Michigan-Mackinac Island~
Today I received another lovely card from the USA, it shows "The Grand Hotel". This hotel was named one of the top 100 hotels in the world...Its on Mackinac Island an island where no cars are allowed... So it must be a really nice place to stay (wish I could someday!:D) Thanks Erin!!
With a lot of wonderful stamps...
But just like my card yesterday no cancellation... Mackinac Island is an island resort area and part of the U.S. state of Michigan. The entire island is listed as a National Historic Landmark.. It is well known for its numerous cultural events; its wide variety of architectural styles, including the famous Victorian Grand Hotel; its fudge; and its ban on almost all motor vehicles. More than 80 percent of the island is preserved as Mackinac Island State Park.
