Andorra ~ Church of Sant Martí de Nagol~

... Nice view of a small Romanesque church located inside the cliff on one side, and overhanging the valley on the other... the church of Sant Martí de Nagol is mentioned for the first time in an old document from the year 1048... this small but fascinating church at an altitude of 1102 meters can only be accessed by crossing a steep path from the town of Nagol... seeing it clinging to the rock on a cliff high above the Valira valley is stunning... this postcard is with a stamp from the Spanish postal service... Thanks a lot Josep&Assumpta! ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)

Nagol is a population center in the Principality of Andorra located in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria.

The semicircular apse is located on the north side and is also, to a large extent, embedded in the rock. Inside, the floor is cut directly on the rock and the presbytery is raised, taking advantage of the shape of the terrain. The church was restored at the beginning of the 80s, of the 20thC.

ANDORRA ~ Sant Serni de Nagol Church -

... A beautiful view of one of the many small Romanesqie jewels of the country... a small church made from rough stones... very picturesquely located on a hilltop, with unique and amazing views to the mountains and valleys of the Principality... built in medieval times and follows the typical architectural layout of the Romanesque churches of Andorra... it has a simple nave and a tall bell tower in front of the church... the inside is full of Romanesque style paintings and murals which the church is renowned for... tours of the church are available with prior consultation in the months of July and August but the church remains closed except for ceremonial times through the rest of the year... this postcard is with stamps from the Spanish postal service... Thanks a lot Josep&Assumpta! 〤◕‿◕〤

The Iglesia de Sant Cerni de Nagol Church is located  in the town of Nagol, in Sant Julià de Lòria,

The consecration document dates from 1055, a time when Lombard influence had not yet spread throughout Andorra, which explains the lack of any exterior decoration.

On its interior you’ll find the first pictorial sketches from the Romanesque in Andorra, which are impressive due to its religious, primary, and expressive character. The paintings represent several angelic silhouettes adorning the Agnus Dei. They are surrounded by important iconographies symbolising Good and Evil.

ANDORRA ~ The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley - UNESCO ~

... Lovely view nr2 of the only UNESCO site in Andorra... (l already got one sent by the French postal service)... a beautiful and well-preserved Valley in one of the smallest countries in the world... mainly because it is connected with the rest of Andorra only on foot by small paths, there are no roads, it stayed unchanged over the centuries... it is considered as a fantastic example of what’s known as a pastoral landscape... it reflects a rural way of life that was once common across much of Europe’s mountainous areas, but has almost vanished entirely.... its network of various hiking paths, numerous mountain huts and renovated shepherd cabins give the tourists a lot of options for discovering different picturesque routes... this isolated valley is recognised as a haven for rare or endangered wildlife... with great matching UNESCO stamp👍...Thanks a lot Josep&Assumpta! 乂❤‿❤乂

It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, with a small extension in 2006.

ANDORRA ~ Tristaina Lakes ~

... Beautiful nature view of one of the many high-mountain lakes... Andorra is surrounded by nature...  more than 90% of the territory is free from urbanisation and there are 70 spectacular lakes... the Tristaina Lakes are some of the best known lakes in Andorra... the area around these lakes is a popular hiking destination... not only because there are many options to go for a swim or dip your feet in the water of one of the lakes or the little rivers that flow between the lakes... but also because it’s so accessible, and even though it’s quite an easy hike it is a very beautiful one... it is a circular trail that takes about 2 and a half hours with gentle ascents and descents...this postcard is with stamp from the Spanish postal service... Big Thanks Josep&Assumpta!(✿ ♥‿♥)

ANDORRA ~ Flag ~

... Nice flag view of the FOTW series... the flag was adopted in 1866... the design of the Andorran flag is related to the flags of France and Spain, who protect the independence of this small state... a flag of three bars is similar to that of the French Tricolour... the pattern of a wider middle stripe can be noted on the Spanish flag... the blue and red are also found on the French flag, with red and yellow also being the colours of the Catalan flag... and the arms of the old County of Foix (currently part of France)...  the motto in the coat of arms in the middle stripe Virtus Unita Fortior means "Strength United is Stronger"... Andorra is the the only country without its own postal system, they are operated by Spain and France... both have their own stamps and letter boxes... this one wth a great UNESCO stamp from the Spanish postal service... Big Thanks once more Josep & Assumpta!ヽ(ヅ)ノ

ANDORRA ~ Casa de la Vall ~

... A nice inside kitchen view of one of the oldest houses in Andorra, which used to be an old parliament, court and prison...  located in the middle of the historic part of the capital, Andorra la Vela... its history, beauty and political importance make Casa de la Vall one of the most symbolic monuments in the Principality... the building has maintained its interior as a parliament...  the house is open to the public with guided tours in several languages... Andorra is the the only country without its own postal system, they are operated by Spain (Correos) and France (La Poste)... both have their own stamps and mailboxes... Thanks a lot Joseph & Assumpta!! (✿ ♥‿♥) →  http://cartesipostalsdarreu.blogspot.com/
Casa de la Vall was built in the late 16thC as a manor house for the Busquets family on a rock overlooking the valley of the River Valira. In 1702, its purpose changed: it was acquired by the Consell General, the Parliament of Andorra, and used as its headquarters until 2011. The building was restored in 1962 and in 2011, the Consell General moved to a new building, also in Andorra la Vella.

On the north side is the kitchen with its impressive hearth in the very centre, where we get some idea of what the food was like, and also of how the political days were organized in the 18th and 19th centuries, with the traditional dress.
