ANTIGUA and BARBUDA ~ Dickenson Bay - St John's~

... Next postcard from Glenn's Caribbean winter escape🌞🏝️... one of Antigua’s 365 beautiful beaches is home to a boldly-coloured telephone box... the red phone booth at Siboney Beach Club has become an iconic landmark on Dickenson Bay... the bright red colour contrasts beautifully with the blue sea and the green of the surrounding palm trees... daily hundreds of "cruisers" walking through to take their photos by the phone box... but I still find it so weird seeing a red phone box against such a tropical backdrop😁... Big Thanks Glenn! \_(♥‿♥)_/ 

Dickenson Bay is located on the Northwestern coast of the island in  St. John Parish and is the most developed beach on the island, with hotels restaurants and water sports facilities.

While the official name is Antigua and Barbuda, the territory actually includes three islands. This comprises Antigua, Barbuda and Redonda. Antigua is the largest island of the nation Antigua and Barbuda. It lies in the middle of the Leeward Islands and the capital is St. John's.

ANTIGUA and BARBUDA ~ St. John's Cathedral ~

... Nice views of one of the symbols of the island and situated in the heart of St. John’s town... in a region not really known for its ornate churches, this beautiful cathedral is a standout... it is an Anglican cathedral located on a hilltop... the city's skyline is dominated by the imposing twin white baroque towers... Thanks a lot Glenn!! \_(♥‿♥)_/

"Originally built in 1683, replaced in 1745, steepled in 1788 and destroyed by hurricane in 1843. The cornerstone of the present building was laid in 1845. It was severely damaged by an earthquake in 1974 and restoration is still underway."

The present cathedral  was built on a fossilized reef and is made from freestone, with stained glass windows and dark pitch pine furnishings.

The iron gates on the south face of the church are flanked by pillars displaying lead Biblical figures of St John the Divine and St John the Baptist.

ANTIGUA and BARBUDA ~ The Devil's Bridge - Devil's Bridge National Park ~

... A small reminderツ... after Martinique, St Kitts & Nevis, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Florida and St Lucia I got once more a Caribbean beauty... an impressing  "bridge" view created by the force of nature...  one of the sights to see in Antigua and a great new National Park postcard... dear Glenn, I don't need to write to Santa... I have you!! (>‿♥)... the bridge is said to have gotten its name from the slaves from nearby plantations who leaped to their deaths during Antigua’s slavery period... it was soon said that the Devil must be present there... the limestone formation is often slippery because of the waves and it is advised people do not walk across the bridge... Thanks a million Glenn !!¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Composed of limestone rock, the rugged terrain of Devil’s Bridge is the result of millions of years of ancient reef formation. For hundreds of thousands of years, the Atlantic’s waves have crashed into the east coast of Antigua creating a natural arch, or bridge. Numerous geysers and blowholes surround the arch as waves continually break against the coastal rocks.

Devil's Bridge National Park is located on a headland on the eastern end of the land. The area was legally constituted as a National Park in the 1950's.

ANTIGUA and BARBUDA ~English Harbour~

Amazing view... Crystal clear blue water ... Beautiful beaches...Wonderful nature...Pleasant year-round climate... Looks like paradise on earth!!:D:D Bedankt Gilles!!

English Harbour, so named because it was the Carribean base of the British Navy in the 18th C. Admiral Nelson chose it because of its "hurricane-proof" inner harbour and the commanding view of its approaches from Shirmey Heights where this picture was taken.

Antigua is the larger island of the nation Antigua and Barbuda. It lies roughly 17 degrees north of the equator in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Carribean. Antigua, the largest of the English-speaking Leeward Islands, is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide capital St. John's.
