GERMANY ~Stone Age Grave Denghoog - Sylt island - UNESCO ~

... Nice view of a Neolitic passage grave, situated in the middle of small village near the park and church... this large stone grave is one of the most impressive and best preserved stone graves in Northern Europe... its stones weigh up to 18,000 kilos each... it still remains a mystery how it was possible to build this mighty stone grave more than 5000 years ago.....the entrance originally led through a small corridor; today visitors reach the tomb from above... also with cute " Mainzelmännchen" stamp and sweet first day postmark💙...  Thanks a lot Dustin! Sylt is located on a Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea.

Denghoog  grave dates from around 3000 BC. The hill today has a height of around 3.5 metres and a diameter at the base of around 32 metres. The internal chamber is ellipsoid, measuring about 5 metres by 3 metres. Its roof is supported by twelve large boulders. A passage of six metres length and a height of one metre leads into the chamber. Several other stone blocks were found scattered around the base of the hill. These have been interpreted as the remains of a stone circle on top of the hill.
