Thanks a lot Dustin!❀◕ ‿ ◕❀
The extremely high quality knitting chain consists of a 42cm long knitting made of gold threads of only 0,5 millimeters thick. Its ends are held in gold sleeves in the shape of an animal head, which are elaborately decorated with pearl wires and red semi-precious stones made using the cell melting technique. This Gold chain from Isenbüttel probably dates from 7thC but precise dating and exact determination of the origin of the chain is still difficult.
The Isenbüttel gold chain was discovered in 1922 during clearing work. Why she once got into the ground is unknown. The finder had initially given it to his children to play with, and later offered it to the landowner in exchange for "a fat pig". After that, it wandered through the hands of antique dealers and collectors until it was bought by the Landesmuseum Hannover in 1962.
The legend of Saint George and the Dragon tells of Saint George (died 303) taming and slaying a dragon that demanded human sacrifices; the saint thereby rescues the princess chosen as the next offering.
Painting on panel 100 x 87 of Saint George strikes down the dragon, by Lower Saxony School of the 16thC. featuring an image of Saint George the dragon slayer, announcing the triumph of good over evil.
