LEBANON ~ Byblos - UNESCO ~

... Great nightview of a tiny fishing village on the Lebanese coast full of history... a busy shipping area in the ancient times... home to monumental temples of the Bronze Age, Persian fortifications, a Roman road, Byzantine churches, and the Crusader castle... now a picturesque Mediterranean seaside town with beautiful cobblestone alleys and seafood restaurants... Byblos is probably one of the most iconic cities in the country and a main tourist attraction...Thanks a lot Hadi!!【ツ】

Byblos, modern Jbail is located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, north of the modern city of Beirut.

First inhabited over 5,000 years ago, the port city of Byblos is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world. For thousands of years, Byblos, was famous for shipping the country’s ceders all over the world, especially to ancient Egypt, Israel, and Babylon.

Byblos is also directly associated with the history and diffusion of the Phoenician alphabet. The origin of our contemporary alphabet was discovered in Byblos with the most ancient Phoenician inscription carved on the sarcophagus of Ahiram.

Byblos was declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in 1984.
