Weilburg’s impressive and expansive castle complex right at its heart dominates the town. It is a Renaissance and Baroque influenced castle which was built for the Nassau-Weilburg family in various stages. Construction started in 1533 and lasted until 1573, then in the 17th century the Baroque additions were made, including much of the current interior of the castle. BELARUS ~BLack Stork~

Got a very nice and impressive big bird card, the Black Stork ...Only the White Stork can be found in Belgium! Both have bright red legs and bill, and look very similar except for their colors!

The Black Stork Ciconia nigra is a large wading bird .It is a widespread, but rare, species that breeds in the warmer parts of Europe, predominantly in central and eastern regions.
This is a large bird, nearly 1 m tall with a 1.8 m wingspan, weighing around 3 kilograms. It is all black except for the white belly and axillaries, and its red bill and legs. It walks slowly and steadily on the ground. Like all storks, it flies with its neck outstretched. It has a rasping call, but rarely indulges in mutual bill-clattering when adults meet at the nest.

Stork are joining the numbers of endangered species in many parts of the world.

BELGIUM ~SNOW-SNOW-SNOW....~

We had this year already 18 days of snow, a RECORD and the astronomic winter hasn't even started!!(december22). Here a few pictures from today:

And this is one of my favourite objects covered in snow; my mailbox...I know that going to my mailbox and finding some postcards will immediatly brighten my day. :D:D
From my daily morning walk ...
The only one of our family who can't get enough of the snow is Bono, our eight year old Golden Retriever...
...Digging, eating, and rolling in the snow!
This Old Presbytery is only a few minutes from where I live. I go past it every day when I go for a walk with our dog!

My second "Aurora Borealis" this week...This view is even more amazing, the colour is a luminous green and with that moon and mountains, just wonderful!!
I do wish I can have the opportunity to witness the amazing Northern Lights someday!

The phenomenon of aurora is an interaction between the Earth's magnetic field and solar wind.

There have been many myths about the Northern Lights. The people of Norway thought the lights were dead warriors fighting. The Vikings thought they were female messengers of the God Odin, to mark those to be killed in battle. The people of Laps and Finland believed they were messangers of God. The Nothern Lights were one of the last unsloved mysteries of the natural world!
