CZECH REPUBLIC ~ Villa Tugendhat - Brno - UNESCO ~

.... Nice view of a masterpiece of modern architecture located in a quiet residential area of Brno... exquisite materials and modern technologies were used in the construction... it is a detached house with a floor area of 907 m2... it has a flat roof and three floors with different plans... its main structure is made of reinforced concrete with steel frames... the most impressive things about the house are the fixed pieces; dining room table, curtain rods on the ceiling to create 'partions' in the open floor plan, the air conditioning system, and the electronic windows that roll down like a car window... unfortunately Fritz and Greta were not able to live in their beautiful, highly modern villa for long... they were a Jewish family and the owners and the family were forced to emigrate in connection with the threat of World War II in 1938... Thanks a lot Hana! \_(ツ)_/

Villa Tugendhat was built in 1929–1930 for Fritz and Greta Tugendhat to a design by the German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Interior designer Lilly Reich and partner of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for more than 10 years designed all the furniture, carpets and textiles for the Tugendhat Villa.

In 1989 Vila Tugendhat was thoroughly restored over a period of more than two years and returned as much as possible to its original state. For the furniture one had to go to old photos and drawings and replicas were designed to approach the original as closely as possible.

Villa Tugendhat was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001.
