SLOVENIA ~ Piran ~

... Amazing pink and blue sky sunset view of the oldest coastal town in the country.... Slovenia is almost entirely landlocked, apart from a 46.6km long sliver of coast on the Adriatic Sea... on this tiny bit of coastline are three coastal towns, the prettiest and most popular is Piran... a relatively small medieval town on the edge of the Slovenian Riviera with breath-taking sunsets, charming narrow streets, orange-roofed houses and a colorful atmosphere packed with culture and history... “Piran is made of salt” is a common Slovenian saying... the town is internationally famous for its salt, which is prized among chefs for its unique texture... today, tourists can purchase bags of salt from street vendors throughout the city... Piran is a popular tourist destination, but it doesn’t get too crowded... Thanks a lot Mirjam!ヽ(ヅ)ノ

The city of Piran  was mentioned as early as the 7thC and sits on a peninsula, which is surrounded by the Adriatic Sea. The name of the town of Piran, which means fire in Greek, originates from the ancient times, when the fires were being lit at the tip of the town’s seashore to guide the ships to the port, now known as Luka Koper.
