GERMANY ~ Linderhof Castle - Ettal - Bavaria ~

... Wonderful view of the second of Bavarian King Ludwig’s fantasy castles... it is the smallest of the fairy-tale king’s three castles and the only one completed during his lifetime... it was his favourite and the place where he spent most of his time... Linderhof has Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo style features, which blends fairly harmoniously... the interior is very opulent with rich guild work and no square inch unadorned...  the garden and park outside the palace are as magnificent as the residence itself with the Venus Grotto, Moorish Kiosk, and Gurnemanz Hermitage...  Linderhof Castle is a must-see in Germany... with another great postmark showing part of one of the last Bavarian stamps... Thanks a lot Dustin!【ツ】

Schloss Linderhof was built from 1874 to 1879 and was designed to be a rococo-style royal villa after his original idea to build a magnificent Versailles-inspired palace.

Linderhof Palace is located  in the upper Bavarian town of Ettal in southern Bavaria.

The name of the palace comes from a mighty weeping-willow, Linde in German, which is in the park for centuries.

In front of the palace is a large formal pool where a fountain spews water up to 35 m high. The Venus temple at the far side of this pool gives the best views of Schloss Linderhof.

The park has several further structures bought by or associated with King Ludwig II.
