UK ~ Gold Hill - Shaftesbury ~

... Lovely view of  a very steep, cobbled hill, with picturesque cottages and nice views of the countryside... certainly one of the prettiest and most romantic sights... and probably the most photographed street in Great Britain... this view appears on the covers of many books about Dorset and rural England, as well as on chocolate boxes and calendars... Thanks a lot Andrene! (✿ ♥‿♥)
Shaftesbury is a Saxon market town situated in North Dorset and it is the only significant hilltop settlement in Dorset, being built about 215 metres.

At the top of the street is the 14thC St Peter's Church, one of the few buildings remaining in Shaftesbury from before the 18thC. Adjacent to the church is the former Priest's House (Sun and Moon Cottage), which is still part of the Gold Hill Museum building but now houses a shop.
