... Many lovely views of Schloss Corvey... over time this former Benedictine abbey was transformed into a baroque palace complex... one of the most important monastic establishments in medieval Germany... there are two main sections... the first is the church, its Carolingian westwork from the 9th century survives and is the only one of its kind in the world... it also has a deep history and people have worshipped on this site for nearly 1200 years... the second section of Corvey is much larger and more impressive in its grandeur... it is made up of the multi-levelled monastery building that holds many treasures and is a piece of art in itself... one of the highlights to visit is the impressive library, which houses over 75,000 volumes and is one of the most important private libraries in Germany... the site also includes a museum with exhibitions on the spiritual and secular history of Corvey... Thanks Marcel!【ツ】
Schloss Corvey began as a Benedictine abbey in 822 AD, founded by Louis the Pious son of Charlemagne. It was a significant center for the Christianization of Northern Europe and became a wealthy and influential monastery of the Frankish Empire. After the secularization of the abbey in 1803, the buildings were converted into a palace.
Carolingian Westwork and Civitas Corvey was add to the World Heritage List in 2014.
