GERMANY ~ St. Peter's Cathedral & Liebfrauenkirche -Trier - UNESCO ~

... Impressive view of the oldest Christian church in the oldest city of the country... the largest religious structure in Trier... a mixture of many eras from Romanesque through Gothic to the Baroque... the Liebfrauenkirche built in French High Gothic style is next to the cathedral and shares it with a wall and cloister... the Dom is not just a meeting place for Christian people but also a place of pilgrimage... the Cathedral’s most precious relic is the Holy Robe, the Tunic of Christ has been kept in a wooden shrine dating back to 1891... the Holy Robe is only accessible during the Holy Robe Days, which attract pilgrims to the cathedral city each year... Thanks Dustin! ❀◕ ‿ ◕❀
At the time of the Emperor Constantine, a basilica was constructed from the remains of a Roman residential building between 310 and 320 A.D., and this was then expanded into a larger church structure in the year 329. Later, in the 4thC, parts of the church were destroyed by the Franconians and further parts by the forays of the Vikings in the Rhineland.

Renovation work was carried out on the cathedral from the 11thC and it was constantly being expanded. The last thorough renovation of St. Peter's Cathedral were carried out between 1960 and 1974.

In 1986 the church was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier.
