... First of a few lovely postcards showing the city of Mainz... starting with a beautiful aerial view of the impressive Mainz Cathedral also named St. Martin’s Cathedral... a key feature of the city scape even today over a thousand years after its construction... this majestic building of the Roman Catholic era is located in the historic heart of the city on its Market Square and its high towers dominate the Old Town's half-timbered houses... for the construction of the temple, sandstone or a reddish hue was mainly used... inside the structure has a length of 109 meters, and outside its length is 116 meters... the height of the highest western tower is 83 meters... with nice stamp and special first day postmarkđ... with as theme "Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity"... Thanks a lot Dustin!ăœ(ă

The Cathedral of Mainz was first established in 975AD but continually restored and rebuilt over successive centuries. Much of its present form dates to the 13th and 14th centuries, with the cathedral surviving largely unscathed during the Allied bombing of Mainz during World War II.
In the current appearance of the Cathedral, elements of Gothic, early Baroque and Renaissance are traced, which are mixed in one building, making it possible to trace the history of the development of architecture. The inside contains the tombs of several of the city's archbishops.
