... Lovely view of a northern town in the Yukon Territory and one of the most interesting and charming small towns in Canada... when gold was found in a nearby creek in 1896, it started one of the most famous times in history, "the Klondike Gold Rush"... Dawson City became the centre of the Klondike Gold Rush, and prospectors from all over the world arrived with gold fever in their hearts and minds... turning the small, remote settlement into a lively booming town... tourists to Dawson City can discover everything they could ever want to know about the gold rush, by following in the prospectors’ footsteps on the paddle steamers... sifting for gold up at Claim 33... reading some of the literature by Dawson City writers and buying and selling gold in the shops... with great "Heart of the Klondike" postmarkđź‘Ť... Thanks a lot Glenn! (✿◠‿◠)

The Dawson Daily News is located in the historic district of Dawson. It is an example of a warehouse structure of the Gold Rush period from 1897-1906. The rectangular, gable roofed timber structure has an asymmetrical, Boomtown fronted, street elevation with ‘Dawson Daily News’ painted across it in large letters. Its good functional design is evidenced in its successful adaptation into a publishing, printing and jobbing business.
The famous Klondike gold rush broke out in 1898 right here - at the Bonanza Creek gold deposit, very close to present-day Dawson City. Dawson, a trading post in a mud flat at the confluence of the Klondike and Yukon Rivers, mushroomed in a single season to a sprawling boom town, made up of log and frame buildings and tents. The town was named after Dr. George Mercer Dawson, a Canadian government geologist.
Dawson Historical Complex protects over 17 buildings that are associated with the story of the Klondike Gold Rush. The site reflects the social, economic and political features that shaped the Yukon region over the last century.
