GERMANY ~ Harz National Park ~

... This will be postcard nr 8👍( and all very different views) of one of the largest forest national parks in Germany... though it also shows also an untypical scene of the NP, a rare bog landscape... a place for nature lovers, hikers, climbers or people who are interested in mining history, Cold War relics, castles... you can choose from over 9.000 km of hiking trails to explore unspoiled forests, deep valleys and lush meadows... a refugee for plants and animals... with great stamp and special postmark celebrating the 200st birthday anniversary of Gregor Mendel (1822-1884)... he was a teacher, abbot and researcher... by now they call him the "father of genetics"... Thanks a lot Dustin!!ヽ(ヅ)ノ

The Harz is the northernmost German Mittelgebirge and the highest mountain range in Northern Germany.

This NP combine rolling mountains with a dense pine forest. It was established in its current form by the merging of the Upper Harz National Park and the Harz National Park in Lower Saxony in 2006 following the two National Parks uniting.

Today it is a protected area covering ± 24,700 ha. where numerous varieties of wildlife flourish and rare animals have been reintroduced.
