... Wonderful city view... Ljubljana is the green capital of a green country... the area on either side of the river with its picturesque bridges and the central market owes its distinctive appearance to the great architect Jože Plečnik... the most important Slovenian architect with an international career and an incredible and unique language transformed the image of Slovenia's capital city... architecture and landscape were connected to modernize the city, with respect for the classical elements... the bridges, squares, parks and other public spaces date from between the 1920s and 1940s... Ljubljana is the capital and the largest city of Slovenia.
The city is located along the Ljubljanica River in central Slovenia in a natural depression surrounded by high peaks of the Julian Alps.
Ljubljana has been included on the UNESCO’s WHS list in 2021. Almost all of Jože Plečnik (1872-1957) major works in Ljubljana are included in the WHS list, including the city’s water axis (Ljubljanica riverbanks and its bridges), land axis (Congress Square, Zvezda Park and the National and University Library), the Žale Cemetery and two churches.
