...Great nature views of Austria's highest mountain and centerpiece of the High Tauern National Park... this massive and mighty "black mountain" is the main character in this impressive scenery... (the greenstone core is surrounded by a mantle of schistose rock that gives the Glockner its black colour)... it bears the weight of 180 km² of glacial ice on its shoulders.... it is well-known even to non-alpinists as a must-see destination, with long glaciers and other high-elevation attractions... the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the highest surfaced mountain pass road in the country, is named after the monumental mountain and contributes to its access and fame... unfortunately, due to global warming, the glacier has melted quite a bit😔... Thanks a lot Dustin! (✿◠‿◠)
"The Lucknerhütte (2241m) - Ködnitztal summit cross - Alpengasthof Lucknerhaus (1920m)"
The pyramid-shaped Grossglockner at a hight of 3798m lies on the border between Carinthia and Tyrol. The peak is part of the Glocknerkamm ridge in the Glockner Group.
The High Tauern National Park founded in 1981 has an area of 1,800 km², Austria’s largest national park. The park is home to more than three hundred 3,000 metre peaks, 342 glaciers with a total area of 130 km², and has 551 mountain lakes.
The forests, slopes, meadows and rocky regions of the Grossglockner offer a unique habitat for a plurality of animals and plants in various climes. Ibexes, chamois and marmots can be seen in great numbers. Vultures and golden eagles circle high above the summits and dips.
