The Gargano is entirely located in the province of Foggia in southern Italy on the Adriatic cost. Most of the upland area, about 1,200 km2 is part of the Gargano National Park, founded in 1991.
Aside from the Gargano promontory from which it takes its name, it includes includes the Foresta Umbra (Umbra Forest), the archipelago of Tremiti Islands and the wetlands Lago Salso.
