GERMANY ~ Old Town Hall - Regensburg - UNESCO ~

... Next few cards are coming from Regensburg... a town with a 2.000-year-old history... beautiful view of the bright yellow Old Tow Hall dating back to the 13thC and part of a complex incorporating the Town Hall tower, the Gothic Imperial Chamber building and the Baroque town hall... this impressive historical building is located in the heart of the town... with very ornate features on the main facades including an carved stone arch above the main entrance... this building is a great part of the city's ancient history and a must-see in Regensburg... with nice first day special postmark... Thanks Dustin!【ツ】

Regensburg is a city in south-east Germany located on the Danube river in Bavaria. Originally a Celtic settlement, Regensburg was officially founded in 179 by the Romans and it has always been an important location throughout history.

From 1663 to 1806, the town hall was the permanent seat of the Imperial Diet of the Holy Roman Empire, which became known as the Perpetual Diet of Regensburg. Thus, Regensburg was one of the central towns of the Empire, attracting visitors in large numbers.

Since 2006 the medieval centre of Regensburg has been a UNESCO World Heritage site.
