The television program for children was first broadcast in 1969 in the American National Education Program under the title "Sesame Street" and was created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett and runs in more than 140 countries and 70 languages.
By 2018, the show received 189 Emmy Awards and 11 Grammy Awards in the United States.
In 1973, Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) edited and synchronized Sesame Street for television in Germany for the first time. In 1978, the NDR included an independent, Sesame Street produced in Germany in the program. For this, new characters and sceneries were invented.
