NORWAY ~ Briksdalsbreen - Jostedalsbreen National Park

... Spectacular nature view of the bridge across Kleivafossen waterfall... for more than 100 years, tourists have been taken by horse and two-wheeled cart... in 2004, a new means of transport to Briksdal was offered: "The Troll car"... it has greater capacity than the carts and can take many more tourists in towards the famous glacier.... the hike from Briksdalen Valley to the glacier is one of most scenic hikes in Norway... surrounded by beautiful and wild nature, with steep mountains, wild rivers and waterfalls everywhere... the altitude difference from the start to the end of the trail by the glacier lake is 200 meters.... Thanks a lot Tone!【ツ】

Jostedalsbreen National Park is a landscape shaped by ice and water established in 1991. It covers 1315 sq. km, half the area is glacier covered, and 90 % is above 800 m elevation.

The Jostedalsbreen is the largest glacier on the European Continent, it has a lengtt of ± 80 km and covers an area of 474 km2. At several places the ice layer is over 500 m thick.

Kleivafossen is located near Briksdal valley and the Brikdal glacier (an arm of the Jostedalsbreen Glacier) at the end of the Oldevatnet in the region Sogn og Fjordane.

The Briksdalbreen was a long stretched glacier ending at a glacier lake. Since 2000 the glacier retreats rapidly (over 200 meters). Nowadays glacier walking on the ice is dangerous and not possible anymore.
