HONDURAS ~ Cathedral of Comayagua ~

... First of two great cards coming from the second-biggest country in Central America... Comayagua is one of Honduras’ beautiful colonial cities... the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is of one of the largest and most famous examples of Spanish colonial architecture in the country... the facade was inspired by the Renaissance architecture... the interior is peaceful and decorated with beautiful religious paintings, statues and altars... it faces the central square of the city, and when climbing its bell tower, you will be able to enjoy stunning views of the city and the surrounding area... the cathedral's most interesting feature is that it has the oldest clock in the world... for those who are wondering where the clock is😉... in the left tower next to the cathedral, the clock is circular in white and black colors...it still rings the bells every 15 minutes... Thanks a lot Cesar!【ツ】
The cathedral was built between 1685 and 1715, it's adorned with intricate wooden carvings and gold-plated altars. Of the 16 original altars, only four survive to our days.

The ancient Moorish clock, dating from around AD 1100, ( made by the Arabs during their occupation of Spain) was originally located in the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. In 1620 it was donated to the town by King Phillip III.
