CANADA ~Point Pelee National Park - Ontario - UNESCO ~

...Beautiful aerial view of one more of Canada's natural wonders... featuring the distinctive tip of Ontario’s Point Pelee National Park... one of the smallest but most unusual national parks... a wildlife sanctuary known for its cattail marsh, woodland, and sandy beaches... renowned as Canada's finest bird watching spot... some 360 species have been recorded in the park, and over 100 species stay to breed here... and an important migration landmark for monarch butterflies... the Park is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2018... Big Thanks Andrene!! (✿ ♥‿♥)  (*Ps.* I'm so sorry... you are right... I'm thinking the whole day why I didn't sent more often something in return... I must have thought that "common" Belgium wasn't interesting enough for someone who has been to and seen so many amazing places😔 ➙ on its way 💌 😊)
Point Pelee National Park was founded in 1918, with an area of 15 km2 and  is located at the tip of Point Pelee, a long peninsula jutting abruptly into Lake Erie at the southernmost point of mainland Canada. This spit of land is slightly more than 7km long by 4.5 km wide at its northern base.

The spit was named by French explorers, who called it Pointe Pelee, meaning "bald point," for its lack of vegetation.

It is designated  by UNESCO as “Wetland of International Significance”.
