SRI LANKA ~ Galle Face Hotel - Colombo ~

... Lovely view with the iconic doorman Kottarappu Chathu Kuttan, who made history for being one of the oldest hotel employees in the world... he passed away in 2014 at the age of 94... his welcoming broad smile and hands raised to say “Ayubowan” (may you live longer), was always a symbolic sight at Galle Face Hotel.... a famous landmark situated in the heart of the city along the seafront... the oldest hotel on the island... it is listed as one of the "1000 Places to See Before You Die" in the book of the same name... Thanks a lot Ravindra!¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It was once a mansion of a British Governor established in 1864 build by the renowned architect Thomas Skinner. During the late 19th century it was known as the best hotel east of Suez.

The property has remained largely unchanged until the present day, though with many extensive restorations.

The Galle Face Hotel has three restaurants, two bars, a pub and also features a museum and art gallery in its Regency Wing.
