BELGIUM ~ Gembloux ~

...First of two great Belgian postcards coming from the French speaking part of my country... both with newly released stamps and special first day postmarks... with nice views of the city where the event was held... Thanks a lot Johan for this unique item!! (✿ ♥‿♥)

Gembloux is a Walloon city  located in the Belgian province of Namur.

The town grew around the Gembloux Abbey, founded in the 10C. In the vicinity of the town, in 1578, the Battle of Gembloux was fought during the Eighty Years' War.

In May 1940 the Battle of Hannut and the Battle of the Gembloux Gap took place nearby, tank battles during the larger Battle of France.

Gembloux's belfry belongs to the set of belfries of Belgium and France inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2005. (first picture)
