RUSSIA ~The State Hermitage~

Received a great panoramic size card (RU-427538) of "The State Hermitage" or "Winter Place" from St Petersburg in the snow...I love all the great information about the view on the back of the card!! Thanks a lot Ksenia! :D

This is the Winter Palace, the official residence of russian monarchs from 1732 to 1917, built by Francesco Bartolomeo Rostrelli. Now it's a famous museum,(there are nearly three million works on exhibit). A beautiful example of late baroque, it was almost destroyed by fire in 1837 and rebuilt!
...Then monarchs lived there and each royal life is a glamourous tragedy...
