... Great aerial view of the Lednice-Valtice Area... the largest artistically designed man-made landscape in Europe... it combines a unique mix of Baroque, Neoclassical, and Neo-Gothic styles with English romantic landscape design.. a historic cultural landscape designed intentionally by a single family... the Islamic Minaret, also known as the Turkish Tower is the most famous and curious structure of the castle park... it is an exceptional construction of this type in Europe and being almost 60 meters high it is also one of the tallest minarets in Europe... it features eight lower rooms with oriental decorations and non-meaningful gilded Arabic calligraphic inscriptions... Thanks Hana!【ツ】
The Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape is a cultural-natural landscape complex of 283.09 square kilometres in the South Moravian Region. Shaped primarily by the House of Liechtenstein between the 17th and 20th centuries, it transformed a regional estate into a unified parkland.
The Minaret or the 'Turkish Tower' is located on the grounds of the Lednice Castle Gardens. Legend has it that Prince Alois Joseph of Liechtenstein wanted to build a new church in Lednice village, but the Consistory of Brno did not allow it. The Prince therefore allegedly built the Islamic sanctuary in defiance.
It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
