ALGERIA ~ Arch of Caracalla - Djemila - UNESCO ~

... Great view of the impressive triumphal arch, one of its most prominent structures in the Roman ruins of Djémila... a unique ancient site in the mountains... this village has some of the best-preserved and most beautiful Roman ruins in North Africa... an example of Roman town planning adapted to a mountain location... the remains include a theatre, two fora, temples, basilicas, arches, streets, and houses... also, impressive mosaics have been uncovered... a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty... Thanks a lot Salim! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Djémila, formerly Cuicul, is a small mountain village near the northern coast east of Algiers. Under the name of Cuicul, the city was built 900 metres above sea level during the 1st century AD as a Roman military garrison situated on a narrow triangular plateau in the province of Numidia. The terrain is somewhat rugged, being located at the confluence of two rivers.

The arch, together with the rest of the archaeological site of Djémila, has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites since 1982.
