AZORES ~ Church of Misericórdia - Angra - Terceira Island - UNESCO ~

... Nice view of the older part of Angra do Heroísmo... one of the most famous landmarks in the city... located on the stunning Angra waterfront overlooking the bay and the Atlantic Ocean...  this beautiful Baroque church is known for its striking bright blue and white colored four-floors facade and the prominent steps at the front... it is an important 18thC construction, built on the site of a former 15thC church dedicated to the Holy Spirit, which was attached to the first hospital in the city... a timeless symbol of faith, history, and Azorean beauty... with stamp of Tuga Post a private postal operator sold in souvenir shops in the Azores and deposited in the specific Tuga Post mailboxes located in the same stores (unfortunately without postmark)... Thanks a lot Gian Luca and Raffaella! ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)

Terceira is one of the 9 islands within the Portuguese Autonomous Region of the Azores, an archipelago of Portugal in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the larger islands and home to Azores' oldest city Angra do Heroismo. It was an important island on the maritime trade route between Europe and North America, which contributed to its development. The island is in fact an active volcanic island, that is composed of several older extinct volcanoes.

It was classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1983.
