BRAZIL ~ Serra da Capivara National Park - UNESCO ~

... Nice detail of cave painting at the Serra da Capivara National park... the park contains tens of thousands of prehistoric rock paintings depicting hunting, rituals, and daily life, offering insights into early human history in the Americas... the majority dating from 50,000-30,000 years Before Present... the region represents one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world, and an outstanding testimony to one of the oldest human communities in South America... it is unknown why the rock painting and carving were discontinued, or why people left.. there are neither indications of war nor of waves of migration... it remains one of the park’s mysteries... this National Park is an exciting tourist destination for anyone interested in history and archeology, as well as nature and hiking...Thanks a lot Mey! Established in 1979, the Serra da Capivara National Park, covers nearly 129, 140 hectares and has a circumference located in the state of Piauí, in the northeast of Brazil. It is a protected area with over 1,300 archaeological sites and is home to unique canyons, scrubby forests called caatinga. Caatinga features spiny plants, vines, and cacti. The landscape transforms with the two seasons: in the dry season, it is golden and spiny, while in the rainy season, it explodes with green and flowers. The park is also rich in wildlife, though some species are rare due to past over-hunting.

Serra da Capivara National Park became a World Heritage Site in 1991.
