View of an icon of the Modern Movement in architecture... one of the first things that strikes you about the house is how small it actually is... and also how radically different it is from the other houses on the road... a small white cube which makes it very unique... the relationship between interior and exterior was pivotal for the designer... it was built according to the architectural principles of the "Stijl"-movement... only the typical colours red, blue and yellow are used, in combination with white, grey and black... the furniture inside was also made by Rietveld, in the same style and colours... the house was carefully restored and is now a museum... The Rietveld Schröder House is designed and decorated by Gerrit Rietveld. It was built in 1924 for widow Truus Schröder and her three children. She lived in it until her death in 1985 and in 1976 the house became a listed monument.
The Rietveld Schröder House is a Unesco World Heritage Sites since 2000.
