The Port of Kobe was opened in 1868 and is located at the foot of the Rokko Mountains on the west bank of the Ashiyagawa River mouth in Hyogo County, southern Honshu, a prime location for maritime trade and commerce, as it sits on the northwest side of Osaka Bay.
