Located in the Western Himalayas in the Kullu region, the Great Himalayan National Park was built in 1984 and declared a National Park in 1999 and is spread over an area of 1171 km2.  Elevations within the park range between 1500 and 6000 m and it contains 7 named mountains, the highest and most prominent of which is the Pyramid (6,230m).

In 2014, the Great Himalayan National Park was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
