GERMANY~ Ernst May Haus & Museum - Frankfurt ~

... View of the terraced "Ernst-May-Haus" in Frankfurt's Romerstadt... the "New Frankfurt" was an affordable housing program from the “New Building” period in the 1920's and an important expample of classical modernism... it is the only residential building in this style that has been completely restored and renovated... a model house to solve the housing shortage... since 2010, the Ernst May House has been open to the public... with lovely stamp and great first day postmark😊... Thanks Dustin!ヽ(ヅ)ノ

The settlement was built between 1927 and 1928 according to plans by the city architect Ernst May (1886 – 1970).

With his innovative urban planning program “Neues Frankfurt”, he developed a concept to enable every small family to live in a new, comfortable way (full basement, five rooms, bathroom, garden).

Another special feature of the Ernst May House is the “Frankfurt Kitchen” designed especially for the kitchen by Margarethe Schütte-Lihotzky, which is now considered the archetype of the modern fitted kitchen.

Rooms are decorated in the original colours from 1928 to give authenticity to Ernst May's vision. The house is also equipped with reclaimed original furniture that was designed for the settlement.
