The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300km over an area of approximately 344,400km2 The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland.
Hardy Reef is 13km long and located 78.3km east of the Queensland coast from Airlie Beach. Visitors usually travel by boat, which takes approximately three hours.
Helicopters and seaplanes also take visitors to Hardy Reef.
The Great Barrier Reef was declared a World Heritage Area in 1981.
