GERMANY ~ Neumagener Weinschiff - Trier ~

... Nice view of the rightful star of the collections at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum... the Mosel Ship... a big burial stone monument, around 2m long in the shape of a rowing ship for transport of wine barrels on the Moselle river from about 220 AD... the barge is loaded with four large wine-barrels, and manned by six oarsmen and two steersmen, one of whom is marking the time by clapping his hands... a relief from a tomb found in 1878 in Neumagen ... the Rhine and its tributaries allowed the easy movement of wine from its production centres to the regions of central Germany and across the Channel to Britain... a replica also stands in Neumagen-Drohn (on the Mosel), which claims to be Germany’s oldest wine-producing town... Thanks a lot Dustin!【ツ】

The Rheinisches Landesmuseum (founded in 1877) is an archaeological museum  showcasing Roman antiquities. The collections  are grouped into four sections: prehistoric, Roman, Franconian-Merovingian and medieval. The largest collection in displays features Roman artifacts to include tombs, mosaics and daily objects from the Roman Empire. Numerous reliefs from funerary monuments show the daily life of the Romans.

Many of the artifacts in the museum's collection have been excavated by the museum. The radius of its scientific research is the city of Trier and its wider environs, which includes over 10,000 archaeological sites that are already known to exist.
