Cades Cove is an isolated valley located in the Tennessee section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. European settlers settled here in the early 1800s.
Established in 1926, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is comprised of ridge upon ridge of seemingly endless forest on the border between North Carolina and Tennessee. Called the Smokies due to the ever-present morning fog. The park encompasses 522,419 acres ( 2,114.15 km2), making it one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States.
