Lovely market fountain with night watchman sculpture at whose feet cats are stretched out... located on the market square of Neustädter Markt in Hildesheim... original from 1913 it symbolizes the old Hildesheim legend of the "witches as cats"... with another cute stamp💜 from the comic heroes series celebrating 45 years of Benjamin Blümchen/ Benjamin the Elephant, the extremely popular cartoon character... and special first day postmark👍... The fountain consists of a basin made of dolomite, in the center of which stands a bronze figure of a night watchman with spear and lantern on a pillar, who is spat on by four stone cats sitting on outriggers of the pillar . Basin and column are in one piece. The pool has a volume of 42 m³ and a weight of 10,200 kg. The total height of the fountain is 6m, of which the figure is 1.8m.
The metal parts of the fountain fell victim to the material shortages of the Second World War.
In 1976 it was restored to its original condition.
