Caspar David Friedrich (1774 - 1840) was a landscape painter of the 19thC German Romantic movement, of which he is now considered the most important painter.
The Lower Saxony State Museum is located opposite the New City Hall and was opened in 1902, designed by Hubert Stier in a Neo-Renaissance style. It was renamed the State Museum in 1933, and finally the Lower Saxony State Museum of Hanover in 1950.
